Brain lag

Good morning... I think...

Brain lag. That lovely incident wherein the brain persists in functioning at no greater than 25%, resulting in no fewer than two doors being run into and all work operating at one-quarter speed until the phenomenon passes.

For me, it occurs most frequently on Mondays after traveling. I fight it with copious amounts of tea, and occasionally hot chocolate steeped in black tea if it's particularly bad.

When are you most prone to brain lag? How do you deal with it?

  1. After I've been doing a marathon of too much work and not enough play. If I know I'm going to be diving into something like that, I really try to eat healthily with a focus on brain food. It's what kept me from crashing after comps, which is what everyone said would happen. For two weeks I only ate food from this list: http://4mind4life.com/blog/2008/07/18/brain-foods-list-of-50-good-brain-foods/

    1. *goes to check out list...* Hmmmm. I'm going to have to try that next time I'm burning candles at both ends.

    2. My main food was egg salad sandwiches with avocado, tomato, nutritional yeast, flax seeds, and spinach on wheat bread.

  2. I have brain lag every morning. It takes a mug of hot coffee and breakfast to elevate my blood sugar enough for linear thought.
